Damage heavy in north-side house fire

A home on the north side of the city received heavy damage in a fire that started in the kitchen this morning, Fort Wayne firefighters said.

Firefighters were called to 7003 Balsam Lane about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. They found heavy fire at the rear of the house.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes. They then searched for hidden fires throughout the house.

No one was home when the fire occurred.

The fire is under investigation.
