Insurance fraud alleged in bus injury

A Fort Wayne woman who claimed she was injured by a school bus has been charged with insurance fraud after a surveillance video reportedly showed she struck the bus with her fist.

Shelley Lapsley, 42, has been charged with Class D felony insurance fraud. According to court documents, Lapsley submitted a claims report for bodily injury to Fort Wayne Community Schools’ insurance company, alleging that she had been injured by a school bus.

However, video obtained from the onboard camera shows Lapsley intentionally punching the bus, according to the report. Lapsley has been charged with submitting false claims of injury and misleading information to the insurance company.

Lapsley, of the 2100 block of Drexel Avenue, has not been arrested.
