Two Notre Dame football players were honored for the achievements in the class room, and a men's basketball player landed on a preseason watch list Thursday.
Right guard Mike Golic Jr. and linebacker Manti Te'o were named to the Capital One Academic All-District V team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced. To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, have attained sophomore academic and athletic standing, be a varsity starter or key reserve and be nominated by the sports information director.
Golic graduated from the College of Arts and Letters with a degree in film, television and theatre and had a 3.429 GPA. He is currently enrolled in the graduate studies program.
Te'o is a design major in the College of Arts and Letters and has a 3.324 GPA. He will graduate in December.
Notre Dame forward Jack Cooley was named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced.
Cooley, a preseason first team All-Big East selection, averaged a team-high 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds last season.
