With any number, Smith excels

Bishop Luers senior standout running back/linebacker Jaylon Smith had to change his number from No. 9 to No. 19 in the first half of the Knights' 22-12 win over Tipton on Friday in a Class 2A regional championship.

The change came because his No. 9 jersey was torn up.

Smith, a Notre Dame recruit, ran for 78 yards and all three Luers' touchdowns.

"It was kind of weird, but I got used to it," Smith said. "I was going to get 99, but this wasn't available. I stuck with it, and everything was good."
