The top-ranked team in the nation opens the season today as Indiana faces Bryant at Assembly Hall.

The Hoosiers are ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll for the first time since the 1979-80 season.

Sophomore forward Cody Zeller leads the way. The 7-foot Zeller is preseason All-American. He and forward Christian Watford were named to the Wooden Award Watch list on Thursday.

IU will have to overcome some hits to its frontcourt. Senior Derek Elson is recovering from a knee injury. Freshmen Hanner Mosquera-Perea and Peter Jurkin are serving a nine game suspension handed down by the NCAA.

Watford will wear Elston's jersey in his honor. Watford usually wears No. 2.

IU faces a Bryant squad that went 2-28 last season. This is Bryant's first season with full Division I eligibility. Six-foot-6 forward Alex Francis averaged 17 points and 7.4 rebounds last year. Six-foot-3 guard Frankie Dobbs averaged 13.3 points.
