ATHENS, Ohio — Employee-trimming programs that Ohio University launched last spring left some unanticipated holes in the staff.
The Athens Messenger reports that 295 faculty and staff have voluntarily left the university since March 2011 through early retirement and voluntary separation plans launched in March 2011.
According to a memo to university trustees from vice president for finance and administration Stephen Golding, percentages of participation for eligible faculty and staff were higher than projections for both groups. He said that has left the university filling critical positions left vacant.
The combined plans had cost the university more than $13 million by the end of October. OU anticipates it will begin to see cost savings in less than two years.
Trustees received the memo in packets for their meeting Thursday and Friday.
