Tech women’s soccer loses title in shootout

Indiana Tech fell to No. 22 Davenport in a shootout in the championship match of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference women’s soccer tournament Friday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

After finishing regulation tied at 3, Davenport (18-2) outscored Tech 3-1 in the shootout.

Tori Singstock, who scored the Warriors’ only shootout goal, scored twice in regulation, and Megan Perrey also scored for Tech (16-5), which held a 2-0 lead at halftime.


Hall of Fame exec Lee MacPhail dies

Lee MacPhail, the longtime baseball executive who ruled in the celebrated Pine Tar case and later became part of the only father-son Hall of Fame pairing, died. He was 95. He was the oldest Hall of Famer, and he died Thursday at his home in Delray Beach, Fla., the shrine said.


Butler sets plans to renovate Hinkle

Butler officials have started a public fundraising drive to raise $5 million in addition to the $11 million already collected to renovate the nearly 85-year-old Hinkle Fieldhouse.


IU runners reach championships

Indiana’s Andy Bayer, a Leo grad, finished fourth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wis., with a time of 30:47. Teammate Zach Mayhew finished second. Both earned spots in the NCAA championships on Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky.


Purdue assistant to miss Iowa game

Purdue offensive coordinator Gary Nord is under doctor’s care at a Lafayette hospital and will miss today’s game at Iowa. Nord has been hospitalized since Wednesday after injuring his back.

The IPFW men’s season ended with a 5-1 loss to Oakland in the team’s Summit League tournament opener in Macomb, Ill.


Djokovic, Murray advance to semis

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray won their final group matches at the ATP finals in London, sending both into Sunday’s semifinals. Djokovic defeated Tomas Berdych 6-2, 7-6 (6), and Murray beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-2, 7-6 (3).


Mastodons get sweep on road

IPFW topped Western Illinois 3-0 in Macomb, Ill., winning by scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 25-19. Haley Emenshiser had 18 kills for the Mastodons (23-5).
