South Side tops Penn

South Side passed an early-season test when the Class 4A No. 5 Archers defeated No. 7 Penn 61-51 at home Friday.

DeJoyah Johnson scored 15 to lead South Side (2-0), and Ariana Simmons added 14 points.

South Side built a 33-21 halftime lead, thanks to a 20-10 scoring edge in the second quarter.

Penn outscored South Side 17-11 in the third quarter, but the Archers had a 17-13 scoring edge in the final quarter to win the top-10 showdown.

WAWASEE 64, WESTVIEW 41: Wawasee’s Kilee Knafel outscored host Westview by herself in the battle between the Warriors programs. Knafel scored 42 points, hitting seven three-pointers.

Maria McCoy scored 13 to lead Westview.

COLUMBIA CITY 48, WHITKO 40: Macie Hinen and Hannah Schnorr each scored 14 to lead the host Eagles.

Kelly Reiff scored 13 for the Wildcats.

BLUFFTON 42, MANCHESTER 37: Gina Eisenhut scored 16 and Lauren Stauffer added nine for the host Tigers.

ANGOLA 55, DEKALB 47: Rachel Rinehart scored 24 and Ericka Rinehart added 11 to lead the visiting Hornets. Haley Martin scored 26 for the Barons.
