MISHAWAKA – Marian rolled up 281 yards on the ground and consistently stopped Heritage in the red zone to notch a 42-20 victory Friday night in a Class 3A regional championship game.
The Marian offensive line, which averages 6-foot-3, 273 pounds, teamed up with a bend, but no break defense to lift the Knights to the Class 3A semistate
The Knights averaged 7.4 yards per rushing attempt, getting 148 yards and two touchdowns on the ground from Tyran Ottbridge and 57 yards and two scores from Michael Whitfield.
Despite yielding 490 yards to Heritage on defense, Marian forced four turnovers while improving to 10-3.
Marian center Dylan Hensley was licking his chops with the thought of a physical matchup against Heritage.
We feel we’re the best offensive line in the state, Hensley said. When we play our best, no one can stop us. I love this line. We knew they were going to try and outscore us and outmuscle us. But we had the size and we had the strength advantage.
