Firefighter in fatal crash is identified

The Allen County Coroner's Office has identified the Washington Township firefighter who was killed by a crash late Sunday night at Hillegas and Butler roads.

Mark A. Haudenschild II, 25, of Fort Wayne, was the lone occupant of the tanker that rolled over several times, according to the coroner's office. His death is the city and county's 35th traffic fatality of the year.

The fire department has scheduled a news conference for 4 p.m. today.

Haudenschild's remains were taken from St. Joseph Hospital to a Fort Wayne funeral home in a procession that started shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Arrangements are pending with D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, according to the funeral home's website.
