Verbatim: LaGrange town clerk charged

The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department issued this news release Tuesday night:

On 11/9/12, the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department was notified of a possible theft and Official Misconduct complaint against the Town Clerk, Michael D. Rowlison, by members of the LaGrange Town Board and the town attorney. Investigation by town officials revealed that several items which were purchased for town use were unaccounted for or missing.

On 11/13/12, officers with the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department and the LaGrange Police Department were given written consent to search the property located at 409 S. Poplar St., LaGrange, IN. There several items were discovered and identified as belong to the town of LaGrange. The property was seized and later turned over to the town of LaGrange for safe keeping.

Rowlison was questioned and later arrested on (2) counts of Theft, both D Felonies and one count of Official Misconduct, also D Felony.

This matter is still under investigation at this time. At the conclusion of this investigation the matter will be forwarded to the LaGrange County Prosecutor for his review and consideration of charges as he deems necessary.
