Ex-teacher released early in student sex case

LEBANON, Ohio – A former high school teacher convicted of having sex with five students in southwest Ohio will get out of prison after serving a little more than a year of a four-year sentence.

A judge in Lebanon granted 34-year-old Stacy Schuler’s request Tuesday. She was sentenced last October for encounters with the Mason High School students at her Springboro home in 2010. The health and gym teacher was convicted of 16 counts of sexual battery and three counts of providing alcohol to a minor.

The teens testified Schuler was drinking alcohol and initiated much of the contact. Her lawyer argued that she had medical and psychological issues.

Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell opposed the release. He said Tuesday he doesn’t think the decision placed enough attention on the seriousness of the offense.
