GM Will Murphy to leave NIPR

FORT WAYNE – Northeast Indiana Public Radio announced Wednesday morning that its board of directors is looking for a new president and general manager for the Fort Wayne-based organization.

NIPR operates two public radio stations, 89.1FM WBOI and 94.1FM WBNI.

General manager Will Murphy is leaving to lead WFIU, the Indiana University public radio station based in Bloomington, Wednesday’s announcement said.

“I am very torn about the decision to leave Fort Wayne,” Murphy said in a written statement. “I’ve grown very fond of the people and the town, and the staff at NIPR have been phenomenal. We’ve gotten a lot done in two years.”

David Hunter has been named interim general manager and will begin Dec. 10.

The announcement said that Hunter has worked as membership manager at NIPR for the past three years and that membership revenues have increased by more than 25 percent. It said he led the effort to redesign the station’s website and was integral to getting a smart phone app for the station.
