Local residents want out of US

By 9 p.m. Tuesday, more than 15,600 Hoosiers had signed a petition for Indiana to secede from the United States.

Those Hoosiers are among residents in at least 40 states who have started a secession drive at "We the People," a White House website.

If any single petition receives at least 25,000 signatures, the Obama administration vows to review it. Texas was at 84,000 signatures at last count.

Numerous residents of northeast Indiana have signed their state's petition. The website shows the first name and first initial of the last name of each person to sign. For example, Fort Wayne residents Giovianna S, Manuel M, Benjamin H and Kurt B each wants out of the United States, apparently while still living in the Summit City.
