The Fort Wayne Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a man suspected of theft and fraud.About 12:30 p.m.The memorial service and burial for the volunteer firefighter killed this week in a fire truck crash have been scheduled for Saturday, Washington Township Fire Chief Brian Gillett said.
The service for Mark A. Haudenschild II will be at noon at The Chapel at 2505 W. Hamilton Road. A visitation will take place there from 9 a.m. to noon.
From the church, a large procession of emergency vehicles will escort Haudenschild's remains to Riverview Cemetery near Churubusco. The route of the procession has not yet been set, Gillett said.
At 8 p.m. Friday, the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Association will hold a ceremony for Haudenschild at D.O. McComb Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday.
On Sunday night, Haudenschild was driving a tanker truck south on Hillegas Road on his way to a brush fire in the 4300 block of Butler Road. He tried to make a right turn to go west on Butler, but the truck rolled several times, hitting utility poles. The truck came to rest on its side, just off Hillegas, about 100 yards south of the intersection.
Haudenschild, a 26-year-old husband and father of two young children, was ejected and pinned under the wreckage. He died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
A Fort Wayne native, Haudenschild had been with the volunteer department for five years and held the rank of assistant chief engineer.
According to his obituary, he worked as a Comcast technician for six years. He enjoyed cars, hunting, fishing, family and helping those in need, the obituary said.
His line-of-duty death was the first in the Washington Township Fire Department's 67-year history, Gillett said. The last Fort Wayne-area firefighter killed in the line of duty was Harry Stapleton with the Wayne Township Fire Department in 1975.
Since Sunday's crash, neighboring fire departments have responded to emergency calls for the Washington Township Fire Department. Gillett said that will continue until the end of the week.
A memorial fund for Haudenschild's family has been set up at Three Rivers Federal Credit Union. Donations can be made at any branch.
