NW Ind. woman charged in 72-year-old man's death

PORTAGE, Ind. (AP) — Police in northwestern Indiana aren't saying why investigators believe a woman hired someone to kill a 72-year-old tow truck driver who worked for her estranged husband.

Porter County prosecutors have filed murder and other charges against 42-year-old Sheaurice Major and 20-year-old Dontaye Singletary of Gary for the Nov. 1 shooting death of Carl Griffith at his Portage home. Police say Griffith was shot while getting his mail that night.

The Times of Munster and the Post-Tribune report Major was arrested last week, while Portage Police Chief Troy Williams said Singletary remained at large. Major was jailed without bond and it wasn't clear whether she had an attorney.

Court documents say Major met Singletary through another woman who delivered a sealed envelope from Major to Singletary soon after the shooting.
