Cougars pick up road win vs. Tech

Scott Kohne’s 28 points led the Saint Francis men’s basketball team to a 53-50 road victory over Indiana Tech at the Schaefer Center on Tuesday.

Kohne converted 12 of his 22 shots and added 13 rebounds for the Cougars (4-0), who trailed by two points at halftime.

Saint Francis had only five other players in the scoring column, led by Josh Hogan with eight points and Brad Sneary with six.

Indiana Tech (5-1) was led by Antonio Cannon’s 17 points, which included 7-of-16 shooting. Jordan Hickman added 12 points and Melvin Brooks had 11.

The Cougars made 46.7 percent of their shots. The Warriors made 42.6 percent.

XAVIER 62, BUTLER 47: At Cincinnati, Jeff Robinson scored 17 points, and Travis Taylor added 15 and nine rebounds to help the Musketeers beat the cold-shooting Bulldogs.

Justin Martin added 10 points for Xavier (2-0), and Dee Davis led a defensive effort that limited Butler (1-1) to 36.5 percent shooting (19 of 52).

INDIANA STATE 66, WINTHROP 55: At Terre Haute, Jake Odom and Justin Gant scored in double figures as the Sycamores won.

Odom scored 15 points and Gant scored 14. Dawon Cummings had 11 points, including two three-pointers, and RJ Mahurin added 10. Cummings, Manny Arop and Rhett Smith all had five rebounds.

The Sycamores led 36-30 at halftime.

Women

BUTLER 68, BALL STATE 62: Daress McClung’s 20 points paced Butler (1-1) in Muncie. She made 9 of 18 shots at Worthen Arena. Ball State (0-2) got 17 points from Brandy Woody.

Kellen Dunham led Butler with 11 points. Andrew Smith added nine points, all in 15 minutes of the first half.

SAINT FRANCIS 66, NORTHWESTERN OHIO 55: Kayla Drake scored 19 points, making 7 of 14 shots, and led the Cougars (5-0) to victory in Lima, Ohio. Teammate Skylarr Shurn had 15 points, and Brooke Ridley had 11 points.

Northwestern Ohio (1-3) was paced by Jess Johns’ 13 points.

HUNTINGTON 66, INDIANA TECH 55: Pazia Speed’s 18 points paced Huntington at the Schaefer Center. She made all eight of her free-throw attempts. Teammates Amelia Recker and Sara Miller-Jennings scored 13 apiece for Huntington (4-0).

Indiana Tech got 12 points from Rachael Kruse.
