NIPR seeking new leader

Northeast Indiana Public Radio is seeking a new general manager, it was announced Wednesday.

Current president and general manager Will Murphy is leaving to lead WFIU, the Indiana University public radio station based in Bloomington.

“I am very torn about the decision to leave Fort Wayne,” Murphy said in a news release. “I’ve grown very fond of the people and the town, and the staff at NIPR have been phenomenal. We’ve gotten a lot done in two years.”

NIPR’s board of directors has named David Hunter as the interim general manager to handle NIPR’s two pubic radio stations, WBOI-FM 89.1, which provides news and jazz music, and the classical music station WBNI-FM 84.1. He will take over Dec. 10.

Hunter has worked as the membership manager at NIPR for the past three years, and during that time, membership revenue has increased more than 25 percent, according to the release.

He recently led the effort to redesign the NIPR website.
