IPFW battled back from a two-set deficit to claim a 3-2 victory over Oakland on Friday to advance to the championship match of the Summit League volleyball tournament.
The Matodons (24-6) will play either IUPUI or UMKC for the tournament title at 8 p.m. in Fargo, N.D. The winner will play in the NCAA tournament.
IPFW, which had lost to Oakland twice during the regular season, lost the first two sets to the Grizzlies, 21-25 and 20-25, but won the next three, 25-16, 29-27 and 15-9. In the final set, IPFW jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
Sophomore Emily Spencer, the Summit League Player of the Year, led the Mastodons with 24 kills. Jessie Manwaring had 16, Hailie Ripley had 12 and Haley Emenhiser had 10.
