Procession for firefighter to be today

Haudenschild

– A funeral procession to honor the Washington Township volunteer firefighter killed Sunday night will take place at 11 a.m. today.

Mark Haudenschild II, 26, died after losing control of a tanker truck and crashing on his way to a brush fire.

He was on Hillegas Road when he tried to make a right turn to go west on Butler Road. The truck rolled several times and hit three utility poles. It came to rest on its side, just off Hillegas, about 100 yards south of the intersection.

Haudenschild died at the scene from blunt-force injuries received in the accident, the Allen County Coroner's Office said.

The procession honoring Haudenschild will depart at 11 a.m. today from D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home on Lake Avenue.

The procession will travel west on Lake Avenue to St. Joseph Boulevard. It will turn right onto Columbia Street before turning north onto Lafayette Road. The route then turns west onto Superior Street and north onto Wells Street. From Wells, the procession will head east onto Fernhill Avenue before heading northwest on Lima Road.

From Lima, the route will go east to Dupont Road and will end at Woodland Plaza Drive. The final destination will be D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road.

The community is invited to line the streets in honor of Haudenschild. Businesses along the route should lower flags to half-staff and are invited to display support on marquees.

On Saturday, a second procession will begin at 8 a.m., leaving from D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home on East Dupont and traveling to The Chapel on Hamilton Road.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, a third procession will take Haudenschild's body from The Chapel to Riverview Cemetery.
