Bush takes up the brush

Former first ladies Laura Bush and Barbara Bush, at a Texas conference about the legacies of first ladies, revealed that George W. Bush (husband of Laura, son of Barbara) has taken up a new hobby: painting.

But this revelation wasn’t new to Gov. Mitch Daniels.

In discussing the lengthy process involved in the painting of his official gubernatorial portrait, Daniels said that wasn’t the only painting of interest to him this year.

Bush – who employed Daniels as his first budget director – offered to paint a portrait of Nigel – Daniels’ bearded collie. And the turnaround time was much quicker than his own portrait.

Without naming the artist, Daniels showed the painting of the dog to an acquaintance familiar with art.

The verdict: Not bad.
