Thanksgiving events
The Rescue Mission, 301 W. Superior St., will have its annual Thanksgiving meal from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday.
The Franciscan Center is seeking donations of turkeys or hams and money to help purchase food items for its Turkey Tuesday on Tuesday. The center expects to serve more than 1,500 needy families. To donate, call 744-3977 or make an online donation at www.thefranciscancenter.org.
Pet events
Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control and Fort Wayne Subaru are conducting the Share the Love Pet Adoption event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at 5000 Illinois Road. All adoptions are $10.
H.O.P.E. for Animals will have its Pics for Paws: Holiday Pictures with a Purpose from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at 1333 Maycrest Drive. Photos by Saint Francis Photo Club are $7.99 and proceeds help support H.O.P.E. for Animals.
Awards/recognition
Anissa Bredemeyer of Roanoke was recognized as a Riley Champion on Nov. 15.
Dr. Michael Wartell, former IPFW chancellor, received the Whitney M. Young Service Award from the Scouting Outreach Committee of the Anthony Wayne Area Council of Boy Scouts.
Jane Jorgensen, of Fort Wayne, has been elected to the Indiana University Foundation Board of Directors. Through the Ove W. Jorgensen Foundation, she and her husband have made contributions to the IU Cinema. She is also active in womens philanthropy at IU and is a founding member of the IU Foundation Womens Philanthropy Council.
Giving back
Home Instead Senior Care is sponsoring Be a Santa to a Senior program through Dec. 13. Participants can choose gift request ornaments from trees placed in Walgreens locations throughout Allen County and then buy those gifts and donate them.
Heritage Park is collecting new hats, gloves and scarves beginning Monday through Dec. 19 to donate to Fort Wayne Community Schools students. Items can be dropped off at Heritage Park, 2001 Hobson Road.
