Victims of Superstorm Sandy will get some help from a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne to the local branch of the American Red Cross. An additional $500 will go to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in New York City to rescue, relocate and reunite animals.

Delivering supplies, meals, and water into affected areas is the top priority, according to Katherine Mac Aulay, chief operations officer and disaster services director of the American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana.

“We have deployed 33 local volunteers toward the effort over the past two weeks, and there is still a great deal of work to be done,” Mac Aulay said. More than 5,800 American Red Cross workers from across the nation are working with victims from Virginia to Rhode Island, with the majority in New York and New Jersey.
