A Hicksville, Ohio, man was injured Thursday when his truck drove off Indiana 8 in DeKalb County, struck a tree and overturned, the county sheriff's department said.FORT WAYNE – An 18-year-old who crashed a stolen pickup truck as he tried to outrun Fort Wayne police in September now faces a pair of charges.
James Guy was charged Friday with resisting law enforcement, a felony, and operating a vehicle without having received a license, a misdemeanor.
On Sept. 7, Fort Wayne police were sent to the 400 block of Calhoun Street regarding the recovery of a stolen 1994 Chevy Silverado parked in a lot of the Allen County Jail, according to court papers.
A police officer saw Guy drive away in the truck and followed him to the 500 block of West Berry Street before trying to pull him over. Instead of stopping, Guy got onto Main Street and drove west at a “high rate of speed,” court papers said.
Guy lost control of the truck and crashed into a utility pole at Main and Leesburg Road.
Not wearing a seat belt, he was ejected and the pole landed on his midsection, authorities said.
He was taken to Lutheran Hospital in serious condition with injuries to his leg and face.
Guy, of the 5800 block Turtle Creek Drive, was being held Friday at the Allen County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.
