INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana has a fifth death from an outbreak of fungal meningitis thats been connected to injections of a recalled back pain medication.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its website Friday to include a total of 55 cases of the rare disease in Indiana.
State Department of Health spokesman Ken Severson says he doesnt have any information about the fifth death.
State officials say clinics in six Indiana cities received tainted steroids traced to the New England Compounding Center. The Framingham, Mass., company is linked to a multistate outbreak thats sickened 480 people and caused 33 deaths.
