200 sick dogs seized from Ohio home

– Sheriff’s deputies and animal rescue workers seized about 200 dogs from a western Ohio home where they were housed in kennels that authorities say were unfit for animals.

Shelby County deputies seized the animals Saturday after an investigation into what the sheriff says were complaints of animal cruelty.

A statement from Sheriff John Lenhart says the home’s owners operate a pet business at that location near Sidney, about 40 miles north of Dayton.

The county’s dog warden, a veterinarian and representatives from the American Kennel Club and the Ohio Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals helped remove the dogs of various breeds.

They say the animals are in poor health and will be checked out medically and housed.

A sheriff’s dispatcher could not confirm whether charges had been filed.
