Unity Christ Church changes name in year 60

Statement as issued Monday by the Unity of Fort Wayne Spiritual Center:

Unity Christ Church of Fort Wayne has changed its name to Unity of Fort Wayne Spiritual Center to reflect an emphasis on practical spirituality as a positive path for daily living. In July, the congregation hired Rev. Barry Vennard, a Unity Transitional Ministry Specialist, to guide the church through this transformation and into a greater unfolding of Unity in Fort Wayne.

Incorporated in 1952, Unity of Fort Wayne Spiritual Center is an affirming and welcoming community engaged in practical teachings, prayer, and meditation seeking to help people live healthy, prosperous, and meaningful lives. The Unity movement in Fort Wayne began in 1939 when William G. Sullivan gathered a small group of people together at the Old Wayne Hotel to study a little magazine of daily prayer called Daily Word published by Unity School of Christianity located in Kansas City, Missouri.

Unity of Fort Wayne Spiritual Center, located at 3232 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne, Indiana 46805, is a member of Unity Worldwide Ministries. Charles and Myrtle Fillmore founded Unity in 1889 in Kansas City, Missouri, after Mrs. Fillmore’s remarkable healing from tuberculosis using prayer and affirmations. As more and more friends became interested in a fresh perspective on life and religion, Unity grew from small prayer circles in living rooms to the worldwide movement it is today. Unity Worldwide Ministries’ vision is to be the world’s premier provider of spiritual resources and the destination of choice for personal transformation.
