Jaylon Smith named finalist for Butkus Award

Bishop Luers senior Jaylon Smith has been named one of five finalists for the 2013 Butkus Award as the top high school linebacker in the country.

Finalists were selected by a panel of 51 coaches, scouts and journalists supervised by Hub Arkush of Pro Football Weekly.

Winners will be announced the first week in December.

The other finalists are:

Reuben Foster, Auburn, Ala.; Trey Johnson, Central Gwinnett, Lawrenceville, Ga.; Peter Kalambayi, Butler, Matthews, N.C.; and Isaac Savaiinaea, Punahou, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Smith, a Notre Dame recruit, joins the Irish family with ND senior Manti Te’o listed as one of five finalists for the collegiate Butkus Award.
