Basement fire hits north-side home

A basement fire Friday left a house on Fort Wayne’s north side with heavy smoke damage, according to the city’s fire department.

About 12:15 p.m., firefighters were sent to 2521 N. Anthony Blvd., north of East State Boulevard, and they extinguished a small fire in the basement near the furnace.

No one was at home at the time of the fire. A woman who lives there told fire officials she came home and found the house full of smoke.

Along with heavy smoke damage, the blaze caused minor fire and water damage. No one was injured.

The fire remains under investigation.
