Luers AD praises football interim coach

With the celebration Monday at the school's gym for a fourth straight Class 2A state championship, new Bishop Luers athletic director expressed his respect for the difficult job interim coach Steve Keefer did after taking over midseason for the fired Matt Lindsay.

"He did a great job," Huth said Monday. "He was a steady influence. He is really, really solid individual. He took the program and brought us some experience and brought back some things that were needed in the program, and it worked out really well."

Keefer, who coached Luers to its first of 11 state titles in 1985, was the school's freshman coach before being elevated to steer the program, albeit temporarily as interim coach.

Keefer said he wants to return to coaching next year for the program, but as the freshman coach again.

"If they will have me," he said Monday.
