Key matchup: Cooley, a 6-foot-9 senior forward, has been living up to All-Big East preseason selection, leading the Irish in scoring and rebounding. Robinson, a 6-foot-9 senior forward, provides the same for the Cougars. The post player who gets the edge could decide the game.

The skinny: Notre Dame senior guard Scott Martin didn’t play in Saturday’s 69-53 home win over Saint Francis (Pa.) because of tendinitis in his knee. Coach Mike Brey told reporters that he hoped to have Martin back for tonight’s game. … Senior center Garrick Sherman made his first start for Notre Dame in place of Martin. Sherman scored 11 points against Saint Francis, giving him back-to-back double-digit scoring games for the first time in his career. … The Irish are holding opponents to an average of 26.2 points in the first half.
