A man died Wednesday after he was shot inside a barbershop on Fort Wayne's south side, police said.

It was at least the fifth shooting investigated by Fort Wayne police in the past six days.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was shot shortly before 4 p.m. at E&M Barbershop at Pontiac Mall, 1108 E. Pontiac St., said officer Jason Anthony, a police spokesman.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, Anthony said.

No arrests have been made and police have no suspects, he said.

The case remains under investigation by city police, the Allen County Coroner's Office and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.

Latasha Bragg stood across the street from the shopping center Wednesday night, watching through the glass doors of the shop's entrance as police sorted through evidence and photographed the area. Bragg, who lives within walking distance of Pontiac Mall, said she has lived in the area for more than 15 years and is concerned about the violence.

"I'm pleading to stop the violence," Bragg said. "Innocent children could have been shot."

Bragg said she has grown increasingly concerned about the safety of her neighborhood – especially when it comes to the safety of her children and grandchildren.

"It's getting worse and it's getting closer and closer to home," she said. "I have family nearby and I'm afraid. Bullets don't have eyes."

Wednesday's shooting continues a string of violence in the city in recent days.

• Two men were shot and a third man was injured early Friday at The Cabaret, a strip club at 1525 Production Road on the city's north side.

• Two people were wounded early Monday in a shooting outside Foster's Sports Pub, 4226 S. Clinton St. Officers found Adrian L. Davis, 34, inside the bar with a gunshot wound to the leg and Eric D. Lewis, 35, in a nearby home with a gunshot wound to the hand and possibly more injuries to his back.

• Keneisha A. Eley, 24, was shot multiple times, and Tyrion L. McNair, 19, was shot at least twice Monday afternoon. Both were found wounded near the corner of Boltz and Warsaw streets, police said.

• Gunfire hit two houses Tuesday afternoon on Lafayette Street as one car chased another down the street near the intersection of Lafayette and Senate Avenue. A man who lives in one of the houses that was struck told police he heard three or four gunshots. No one was injured, police said.
