New Haven removes Green St. stop sign

The city of New Haven has removed a stop sign on Green Street at Powers Street after a traffic study deemed it unneccessary.

City officials have asked motorists to remain aware of the change and to use caution when approaching the intersection.

The sign was originally placed on Green because Powers was part of U.S. 24 and was experiencing a high volume of truck traffic, said Tye Campbell, assistant director of engineering.

But that was more than 10 years ago, and now that through traffic and truck traffic use Interstate 469, there has been a substantial drop in the amount of traffic using that street, he said.
