Kosciusko County police are investigating the death of a Warsaw man who was hit by a Jeep after his moped crashed west of Pierceton. The county crash investigation team said Brandon D.FORT WAYNE – Gunmen forced their way into a credit union on the city's northeast side Thursday morning, battered and bound the employees, and shot their weapons inside, the Fort Wayne Police Department said.
Shortly after 8 a.m., officers were called to the ProFed Federal Credit Union at 6448 Stellhorn Road, where an employee said she was ambushed as she arrived for work and was forced inside at gunpoint.
The three robbers attacked three credit union employees, binding them at the hands and ankles, police said in a written statement.
It said none of the employees required medical attention and that the robbers took money and left.
A customer was at the drive-up window and called 911 immediately, describing the gunmen and where they were headed.
The police said police dogs were called in to search a residential area south of the bank. "Residents are encouraged to contact police if they witnessed any suspicious activity this morning," the police statement said.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police at 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.
Eleven city schools were advised to be on alert, to bring students inside the buildings quickly as they arrived at elementary schools and have extra personnel on watch, according to a written statement issued by Fort Wayne Community Schools.
Three schools chose to go on lockdown: Snider High School, Jefferson Middle School and Croninger Elementary School, the statement said. Snider lifted the lockdown after 20 to 30 minutes, while Croninger and Jefferson were locked down for 60 to 90 minutes, the district said.
