Indiana police: Children in back of moving truck

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) — State police say a Pennsylvania couple was arrested after a trooper found five of their children riding in the back of a rented moving truck as they traveled through eastern Indiana.

Sgt. John Bowling says a relative reported the traveling conditions of the family moving to California. A trooper found them Wednesday night at an Interstate 70 truck stop near New Castle.

Bowling says the couple had two small children in the truck's cab, but an 18-year-old daughter and four other children between 9 and 17 years old were in the unheated storage area with 18 cats and the family's belongings.

Police say 41-year-old David Detzen and 40-year-old Rebecca Detzen of Fairmount City, Pa., were jailed on preliminary child neglect charges. It wasn't immediately clear whether they had an attorney.
