Statement as issued Friday by the airport:
Fort Wayne, Ind. – Fort Wayne International Airport and the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce have announced the winners of their 5th annual “Home for the Holidays” contest in conjunction with WAJI, Majic 95.1. Two service members have been chosen to fly home to Fort Wayne free of charge this holiday season: Lance Corporal Nichalos Tucker of the United States Marine Corps and Staff Sergeant Matthew Shattuck of the United States Army.
“We would like to thank everyone who entered this year,” said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports. “As proud military supporters, we at Fort Wayne International Airport are happy to thank those military members who serve our country by giving them the gift of family this holiday season.”
Tucker is currently training at Camp Pendleton, California for his second deployment in two years. Upon his homecoming, he will spend his first Christmas with his two-year-old daughter. He was serving in Afghanistan last Christmas.
Shattuck is currently stationed in Afghanistan and was nominated by his sister. “He serves this great country with unwavering pride,” she wrote. “We want to let him know how proud we are of him. He has accomplished a great deal in his military career and personal life; I am truly proud that he is my brother.” Shattuck has served in the United States Army for 12 years.
“It’s always a tough decision, and we thought all of the entries this year were deserving of a trip home. We wish all of those serving our country a happy and safe holiday season,” Hinderman added.
