Shatner will attend Enterprise retirement

Capt. James T. Kirk will be on hand when the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise is officially retired.

A publicist for William Shatner tells the Daily Press that the actor will attend the ship’s inactivation ceremony Saturday at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia. Shatner is scheduled to perform Friday in Newport News.

The world’s first-nuclear powered aircraft carrier returned to Norfolk from its final deployment this month. Saturday’s inactivation will be its last public ceremony.

New book due

“The Hunger Games” novelist Suzanne Collins has a new book coming out.

Scholastic Inc. says the multimillion-selling author has a picture book scheduled for next fall. The book will be called “Year of the Jungle,” based on the time in Vietnam served by Collins’ father. “Year of the Jungle” is her first book since 2010’s “Mockingjay,” the last of her “Hunger Games” trilogy.

CNN taps Zucker

CNN on Thursday named former NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker as its new top executive, searching for a way to turn around the original cable news network as it has lagged behind rivals Fox News Channel and MSNBC.

Zucker will start in January, based in New York and reporting to Phil Kent, who runs all of the Turner networks for parent company Time Warner.

Past hosts return

The Spike Video Game Awards are assembling past hosts.

The cable network announced Thursday that the gaming extravaganza’s previous emcees would join “The Avengers” star and four-time VGAs host Samuel L. Jackson at next week’s show.

Previous hosts Zachary Levi, Snoop Lion, Jack Black and Neil Patrick Harris are set to appear at the 10th annual ceremony.

The VGAs will air live on Spike on Dec. 7.
