A long-standing south-side eyesore felt the blows of the wrecking ball Tuesday to make way for housing to help young adults who have aged out of the foster care system.Fort Wayne’s Winter Heating Program for low-income residents is now open, city officials announced.
The Winter Heating Program provides low-interest, five-year loans up to $5,000 to replace or repair failing furnaces or water heaters. Monthly loan payments will range from $25 to $90 a month for residents at 80 percent or below the area median income ($51,050 for a family of four).

Completed applications are being accepted through Feb. 15.
