Injuries reported in Defiance Co. crash

A woman was badly hurt in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon in Defiance County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Brenda A. Michel, 57, of Ottawa, Ohio, was in critical condition at Parkview Regional Medical Center, hospital staff said.

The crash happened about 1 p.m. in a curve on Ohio 15, west of Schubert Road in Highland Township, the patrol said. Michel was driving west in a 1998 Oldsmobile when she collided head-on with an eastbound 2002 Pontiac, the patrol said.

Michel was flown from the crash scene to the hospital. The Pontiac driver, Makayla M. McAvoy, 18, of Mount Gilead, Ohio, and a juvenile passenger in Michel’s vehicle were taken to Mercy Defiance Hospital, the patrol said. Their conditions were not available.

The juvenile’s name was not released. The crash remains under investigation.
