    In three matches over the last 12 months, this is the quickest Carroll has been able to get out of the Homestead gym with a win. The Chargers beat Homestead 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 on Tuesday in a Class 4A regional.

    Concordia defeated Fairfield 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-7) in the Class 3A volleyball regional to advance to the semistate semifinals. Tionna Williams led the Cadets with eight aces, 13 kills and 11 digs.

Luers linebacker, Snider volleyball player win JG honors

Jaylon Smith of Bishop Luers received the Euell A. Wilson Award as the most outstanding high school senior football player in the Summit Athletic Conference, and Somer Johnson of Snider was presented the Glass Spike Award as the top senior volleyball player in the conference.

The awards, sponsored by The Journal Gazette and Sport ONE Ortho Northeast, were presented Monday night at the annual Fall Athletic Awards ceremony at the Walb Union Ballroom at IPFW.

In addition, Snider football coach Kurt Tippmann and the Panthers' volleyball coach Brooke Sellhorn were named coaches of the year.

Snider volleyball player Grace Woolsey was presented with the SAC Mental Attitude Award.

Also, members of the All-SAC football and volleyball teams were honored, as well as the All-Northeast Indiana teams for both sports.
