Mastodons lose to Valpo

IPFW let a 10-point first-half lead slip away en route to a 82-73 loss to Valparaiso on Tuesday at the Gates Center.

The Mastodons (3-4) bolted out to a 19-9 lead, but watched Valpo (3-5) rally to lead at the half, 34-32.

A 10-0 Valparaiso run in the second half broke open a 58-54 game that gave the Crusaders a 68-54 lead with 5:34 remaining.

Junior Amanda Hyde, who tied a school record the last time out with 43 points, led the Mastodons with 25 points.

Tabitha Gerardot, the former Canterbury standout, led Valpo with 17 points.

IPFW will return to the Gates Center on Thursday to face 14th-ranked Purdue.
