Ants get early-season lull

Swung by the Ants practice at Concordia Seminary the other day, and not much is going on.

JaJuan Johnson is still trying to get in full basketball shape. He's been playing mega-minutes lately. In the Ants' game against Iowa on Nov. 30, Johnson tapped his head late in the game -- a signal to be taken out -- but coach Duane Ticknor ignored the plea and left him in.

Back-up point guard Dairese Gary is recovering from the flu that kept him out a couple games. He, too, was trying to work back in shape.

The Ants haven't had a game since they traveled to Iowa last Saturday. They'll return to the road this weekend with games at Springfield and Maine.

Steve Warden blogs all things Mad Ants.
