Smell leads police to New Haven meth lab

Neuenschwander
Combs

A potent chemical smell in a rural New Haven garage led troopers to discover a meth lab and arrest two men early Tuesday, according to the Indiana State Police.

About 12:30 a.m., troopers went to a home in the 16200 block of Edgerton Road looking to serve Michael Neuenschwander, 22, with arrest warrants from Steuben County for probation violation and LaGrange County for leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

The troopers found Neuenschwander and Jeremy Combs, 24, in a detached garage. Noticing a chemical smell, the troopers investigated and found a one-pot meth lab, police said.

Neuenschwander, of New Haven, was charged with manufacturing meth, meth possession and maintaining a common nuisance. Combs, of Ashley, was charged with manufacturing meth, meth possession, visiting a common nuisance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Neuenschwander and Combs were in custody Tuesday evening at the Allen County Jail. Combs' bail was $55,750, and Neuenschwander was held without bail on the warrants from Steuben and LaGrange counties.
