17-year firefighter promoted by city

The Fort Wayne Fire Department Merit Commission on Tuesday approved the promotion of a 17-year veteran of the department.

Michael Harley, who has been captain in the department’s combat division since 2001, was promoted to battalion chief. Harley joined the department in July 1995. Harley has been a member of the Specialty Operations Rescue Team and was the team’s shift leader for three years.

As battalion chief, he will be responsible for supervising in his assigned area and will respond and assist as needed in other battalion zones throughout the city, the fire department said.
