Veterans and city officials gathered Friday to rededicate the WWI Memorial moved to McCulloch Park, which has been on the fenced-in grounds of nearby General Electric for 89 years. The memorial was erected on Nov. 11, 1924, in honor of the 748 FortFORT WAYNE – City officials, neighbors, agency partners and builders on celebrated the lease of the final home in the Renaissance Pointe rent-to-own project.
Biggs TC Development began construction on 66 new homes in the neighborhood once known as Hanna-Creighton just over a year ago. Friday, they cut the ribbon on the last one and announced every home had been rented.
The $11 million project initially sparked controversy as neighbors feared the idea of rental homes going into an area proposed as a rebuilt, reinvigorated neighborhood. But renters are carefully screened as future homeowners, and neighbors now say they’ve embraced the project.
City officials are looking forward to two more major projects in the area, but each are dependent upon state tax credits that won’t be announced until February.
