2 men found shot in car, 1 dead

One man was killed and another was badly hurt in a shooting Friday night on Fort Wayne's south side, police said.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., a report of a shooting sent police to the 700 block of Milton Street, just east of South Hanna Street, said Sgt. Mark Brooks, a city police spokesman.

The first officers to reach the residential block came across a green sedan that was overheating as it sat along on the curb, Brooks said.

In the front seat, police found the two men with gunshot wounds, Brooks said. It appeared the men had recently been shot while inside the car.

One man died at the scene, and the other was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Their identities were not released.

As the neighborhood twinkled with Christmas lights on a rainy night, detectives went door to door in search of witnesses.

Brooks said one witness reported seeing someone get out of the car and flee on foot to the north.

"We're really early in investigation right now," Brooks said. "I don't have any description of anyone that we're looking for at this time."

As of late Friday, no arrests had been made.
