Cheers & jeers

JEERS to the folks who moved away on Smith Street and left their kitten outdoors, wearing a collar, alone. While she got food from a neighbor, she was not a streetwise cat and would have become pit bull bait easily. CHEERS to the kind gentleman who took her home for a house pet, to spay, get shots and live with his other cats – although it would have been hard for him not to since she was climbing his pants leg in an effort to give him the idea.

CHEERS to John McCory, Jason and Abby Warner, Eugene McGarvey III, Wildcat Baseball, and Calvary United Methodist Church for their generous donations to Foster Park Little League. With their help, we have a start to replace our stolen zero-turn mower and John Deere Gator.

RYAN KEIRNS and the Foster Park Little League community

CHEERS to the lovely couple who sat across the aisle from us at Azar’s on Bluffton Road on Nov. 17. When they got up to leave, they left money on our table to pay our bill. They wished us a “Happy Thanksgiving” and quickly left. What a generous gesture.

CHEERS to the woman who found my cellphone in the parking lot of Science Central. We had called and searched everywhere for it. It certainly made my Thanksgiving happier.

CHEERS to all who had a hand in returning my lost glasses. I went shopping at Darlington Farms and lost them. Some kind person found them and turned them in to the manager. When I arrived home, there was a message they had been turned in. I asked whether I could send a check for postage and have them mailed to me, but Sue Osterman and her husband brought the glasses to my home and would not even accept any money for gas.

CHEERS also to Marion and Rose Gerardot for hiring a cherry picker to trim their beautiful 40-foot evergreen tree, which will give all of us living in Hillsboro Addition and those who see it joy and happiness.

CHEERS to all those who had a hand in Breakfast with Santa at Ossian United Methodist Church on Dec. 1. The event was sponsored by Norwell Show Choirs (Northern Wells Community Schools), who would like to thank the following businesses for their support: Ossian State Bank; Party Gallery; Schenkel’s Dairy; East of Chicago Pizza; Ossian United Methodist Church; Bluffton Kroger; Pretzels, Inc.; K& K Tools and Design, Inc.; Smith Erectors, Inc.; and I-69 Trailer Center. Events such as this cannot happen without community support. We’d also like to thank the parents and children who enjoyed the breakfast and visit with Santa Claus.

CHEERS to the two off-duty police officers who assisted us Dec. 2 at Kohl’s in the Northcrest parking lot. We came into town to do some shopping and see a movie. When we came out to our van, we had the horrible realization that the keys were locked inside. We noticed a police car and SUV and asked for the help of the two off-duty officers. They were courteous and accommodating. One had the special tools necessary to get the job done for us. We will be sure to give a little extra donation to a charity at Christmas in their honor.
