Van Wert officers seek help in dog shooting

Authorities are looking for help in solving the fatal shooting of a dog last week at a home southwest of Van Wert.

The dog’s owner, who lives on Neiford Road, told Van Wert County sheriff’s deputies he came home about 4:30 p.m. Nov. 29 and discovered that his 8-month-old German shepherd had been shot through the muzzle, according to the sheriff’s department.

The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic in Decatur and euthanized because of its injuries, the sheriff’s department said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to call Van Wert County Crime Stoppers at 419-238-7867 or the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Department at 419-238-3866.
