It used to be that if you needed help – with your rent, your gas bill, your grocery bill, or your abusive spouse – figuring out whom to call for that help was nearly as complicated as the problem itself.Within the next year, a home for families away from home will be expanding.
Officials with the Mad Anthonys Children’s Hope House – located on the campus of Lutheran Hospital – announced plans for expansion Monday, thanks to a gift from benefactor Bruce Dye and members of the Mad Anthonys Charity Classic.
Children’s Hope House provides a place to live for families in need throughout the region who may have someone – typically a child – staying at Lutheran Hospital.
While families are encouraged to give $10 to stay at the home, they can stay there for free if they cannot afford the fee.
Currently the house – which was booked full Monday with three families on a waiting list – has six family guest rooms, a living room, a laundry facility and a kitchen.
The expansion will add four extra family rooms, an extra living room, a television lounge, a fitness room and two more laundry rooms.
Dye and Mad Anthonys Charity Classic gave $740,000 to make the expansion possible.
“It’s hard to express the depth of gratitude we have,” said Jim Gill, president of the Hope House foundation, during a get-together with the members of the charity classic Monday.
Officials hope to complete the expansion by September.
