Notre Dame will play Michigan in a night game for a third season in a row.

ESPN and Michigan announced Wednesday that when the No. 1 Irish (12-0), who play No. 2 Alabama (12-1) in the BCS championship Jan. 7 in Miami, play at Michigan Stadium on Sept. 7 next season it will be a primetime game.

The game will be televised by ESPN or ABC and the time will be announced at a later date.

It will be Notre Dame's last trip to Michigan for the foreseeable future as the Irish exercised their option to opt out of the series for the 2015-17 seasons. Notre Dame will enter a five-game-per-season agreement with the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014.

The Irish played host to the Wolverines in a primetime game this season, beating Michigan 13-6.

In 2011, Michigan's 35-31 win over Notre Dame was ESPN's most-viewed and highest-rated regular-season college football game, averaging 7,541,000 viewers and a 4.5 U.S. rating (5.2 ESPN coverage rating). It was the first night game played at Michigan Stadium.
